Russia is the new investor in F1

The news that Vitaly Petrov has extended his deal with Renault F1 Team (soon to be Lotus Renault?), for not one, but two years until the end of 2012, heralds an increasing level of Russian investment into F1, as if they didn’ t have enough on their hands with the World Cup.

Russian sports car manufacturer Marussia has already invested heavily in Virgin Racing, and of course we have a future Grand Prix planned from 2014 in the city of Sochi on the Black Sea in the region of Kasnodar.

So it looks like the car manufacturers have pulled out and the Russians have driven in, perhaps Putin is angling to take over from Bernie?
