Williams sell shares to Wolff – Austria owns more F1 teams

November 20, 2009

Will the sale of an equity stake mean any changes for Williams?

Autosport is reporting that Williams have announced that they have sold a stake in the F1 team to an Austrian investment company led by Toto Wolff. This means that Austrian ownership of F1 teams extends to Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso and now Williams. This is not the first time that Williams have had a liason with someone with the surname Wolf(f). Back in 1976 Austrian/Canadian businessman Walter Wolf acquired 60% of Williams and also purchased the assets of the Hesketh team and renamed the operation Wolf Racing. Frank then left along with Patrick Head to form Williams Grand Prix Engineering the basis of the team we see today.
