Mercedes confirms acquisition of Brawn

McLaren and Mercedes could potentially remain partners until 2015

Mercedes have today confirmed that they have purchased a 75% shareholding in Brawn GP. This means that they move to be a full constructor for the first time in their history since they withdrew from F1 in 1955. It also means that the Brawn GP fairtale is now over and presumably the management team who have now sold most of their shareholding are now quite a bit richer! It remains to be seen as to whether the new Mercedes F1 cars will carry the number 1 next year as World Champion Jenson Button has so far been unable to agree terms with team. McLaren will however remain associated with Mercedes and could continue to use their engines until 2015.
