Michael Schumacher talks to the media at the San Marino Grand Prix in 2004

Following on from Felipe’s serious accident and the withdrawal of BMW at the end of the year, the announcement that Michael Schumacher will be sitting in a Ferrari for the European Grand Prix in Valencia on 23rd August is undoubtedly good news for Ferrari, F1 fans and especially for the F1 commercial rights holders – Formula One Group led by Bernie Ecclestone and largely owned by CVC Capital. The recent embarrassment of the Turkish Grand Prix with virtually empty grandstands is unlikely to be repeated as ticket sales will rise exponentially, as will global viewing figures. All Bernie needs now is twelve signed Concorde Agreements and a week that started pretty awfully will have turned out quite well, all things considered.
